Character portrait from my story The Worst Year. The incarnation of March is chronically tired, has more baby animals than he can keep track of, and is never certain what hour it is. If March was ever awake enough to notice his surroundings, he might discover February's crush on him—or April's pranks coming.
Excerpt from "The Worst Year":
January knew three things about March: he was brilliant, mad, and couldn’t be on time to save his life.
He was also madly in love with February, but January had been sworn to secrecy on that point, which he regretted bitterly. Instead of just telling her, March blew hot and cold. He went through mad phases where he copied everything she did. Dressed like her. Acted like her. He might as well have been February. But if February noticed him? Instant bluster and panic. March would suddenly pretend she didn’t exist.
Too late, January realized that by agreeing to keep March’s secret, he had agreed to become March’s friend and confidante, and had been trapped listening to him overthink everything ever since.
